PROJECT DETAILS

Project Overview

This is a concept for a cross-stitch kit designed specifically for D&D and similar games. Each kit would allow players to create their own D&D-scale maps, suitable for gameplay use. These kits include everything needed—colour threads, a needle, and a detailed guide—to make custom, playable maps. Once completed, these maps can be used directly on the table, scaled for miniatures and tokens.

Project Backstory / Inspiration

This idea came from a childhood memory of cross-stitching, which sparked the thought of combining this classic craft with D&D gameplay. The concept is to offer players a hands-on project that becomes a functional, beautifully detailed map for their game sessions.

Craft & Process

Each cross-stitch kit would be assembled with all necessary materials, including pre-cut, colour-coordinated threads, needles, and a printed guide with instructions for creating the map. Collaborating with artists on a royalty basis, we aim to develop a selection of map designs with varying themes. The sample fees and minimum order quantities (MOQ) are manageable, allowing for flexibility in design and customization. We would look to go full colour and can provide more details to artists on limits and sizes.

We envision starting with 1-2 artists to create 2-4 maps, with stretch goals for additional designs if this launches on Kickstarter. These stretch goals would allow artists to expand their royalties with more map designs while giving backers more options to choose from.

We might also give people the option of buying the maps pre-made for those that use want to use them and not make themselves

Environmental and Ethical Notes

The project aims to use sustainable materials wherever possible.

Collaborators / Artists Needed

We’re looking for artists to collaborate on a royalty basis, with a focus on creating maps that align with D&D gameplay needs. In addition, we’d like to connect with craft retail stores that might be interested in stocking these kits.

Promotional partners are also welcome—particularly content creators in the tabletop gaming or crafting community who might be interested in showcasing the maps in action. Given the nature of the product, let’s plays or game demos would be an ideal way to bring this project to life for potential backers.

Uses

These cross-stitch maps would be a great addition to D&D game nights, adding a personal, handcrafted element to the gaming table. As a thoughtful gift or a special project, these kits provide both entertainment and functionality, allowing players to enjoy the crafting process and then use their completed map in-game.

Edition / Exclusivity

The initial run will likely feature a limited number of designs, but as a unique product, there’s plenty of room for additional designs and expansions based on demand.

Partnering with a specific retailer for the initial offering is an option, with the potential to expand distribution if the concept proves popular.

Collaboration Opportunity

We plan to launch this as a crowdfunding or pre-order project, such as on Kickstarter. This approach will allow us to gauge interest and ensure we meet MOQ requirements while giving artists the chance to expand their designs and royalties through stretch goals.

What This Needs to Move Forward

This project needs artist collaborations to create visually compelling maps and would benefit from promotional support. We’re also interested in connecting with craft-focused retailers who may want to stock the items and potentially partner on a pre-order as opposed to a Kickstarter.

We are ready to proceed with sample development for initial designs and are open to covering costs to ensure that collaborators have a solid foundation for their designs.

Compensation Agreement

Collaborators, including artists and retailers, will be compensated after the project reaches its funding goal and sales are completed. Payment terms will be set prior to launch, ensuring all contributors receive their agreed portion once the project is funded and fulfilled.

We are offering the artists involved an even split of the profit after wholesale and shipping costs are covered, with them providing the artwork and with us producing the item, running the Kickstarter and providing fulfilment.
