PROJECT DETAILS

Project Overview

This is a concept for a unique D&D-inspired shot glass set, crafted with tabletop players in mind. The set includes seven hourglass-shaped shot glasses, each with a dry, sealed chamber at the base that holds a different D&D die (D4, D6, D8, D10, D%, D12, and D20). The top chamber is designed for drinks, while the dice remain dry and visible. This collection would come in a custom wooden box with compartments for each glass.

Project Backstory / Inspiration

The idea emerged from a casual D&D game night with a bit of a drinking twist. As we enjoyed a few drinks, one of us accidentally dropped a die into a shot glass, sparking the idea. What if rolling a die required taking a shot? From that happy accident, the concept of merging gameplay and drinkware was born.

Craft & Process

This concept envisions the glasses handcrafted from recycled glass, with an hourglass shape to keep the dice separate. Possible design options include a laser-engraved logo and a touch of gold leaf around the rim. The packaging would feature a custom wooden box made from dark walnut, with felt-covered EVA foam inserts for added elegance and protection.

We’re considering a collaboration with a local glass workshop to make sample glasses, but need to decide between US and international shot measurement before getting samples made.

Environmental and Ethical Notes

Our goal is to use recycled glass and work with local artisans to keep environmental impact low. The wooden box could be crafted from sustainable or recycled wood, which we have sourced successfully for previous projects. This approach keeps production as eco-friendly as possible while supporting the local economy.

Collaborators / Artists Needed

We’re looking for collaborators with woodworking expertise. While we have a trusted local craftsman who can produce the boxes, we’re open to partnering with a woodworking retailer for a unique, co-branded approach. This would involve shipping the glasses for packaging, or designing the box together with a craftsperson on a royalty basis.

We’re also interested in connecting with individuals to help promote this product. While we know drinking content on streams or videos can be tricky, we see this as a high-quality gift item rather than a standard drinking accessory, which could appeal to D&D enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Uses

This set is perfect for D&D game nights or as a collectible gift for tabletop enthusiasts. The shot glasses double as display pieces, blending functionality with a unique design. We’re aiming for a high-quality, niche product that stands out as a special addition to anyone’s tabletop collection.

Edition / Exclusivity

At first, we’re looking at a single design, but if it’s well-received, we may explore different shapes, dice options, and sizes. While we don’t plan to make this an exclusive product, we would consider an initial offering through a specific retailer before expanding availability.

Collaboration Opportunity

We plan to launch this as a crowdfunding or pre-order project, either through a retailer or on a platform like Kickstarter. This approach allows us to reach the minimum order quantities needed for the initial production.

What This Needs to Move Forward

While we’re able to manage production ourselves, we believe the project would benefit from promotion and additional input. We’re especially interested in a partner with woodworking experience—whether a retailer in the tabletop space or a craftsperson who wants to work with us on the design and earn royalties.

We are able to get samples for glassware and wooden boxes once we have decided how to move forward and who with.
