Project Overview

This concept is for a set of lenticular miniatures designed for tabletop role-playing games, created from card. Each miniature will feature 3 to 5 dynamic images, providing a 3D effect or animation as the figure is viewed from different angles. The miniatures will be compatible with standard miniature stands, which will be included in the set. This project is designed to offer a variety of NPCs, monsters, and characters, with a goal of creating a visually captivating and versatile set for use in games like Dungeons & Dragons.

Project Backstory / Inspiration

We’ve always been drawn to the idea of adding motion to tabletop miniatures, believing that dynamic elements can elevate the immersion and storytelling in games. Traditional miniatures are static, but by incorporating lenticular images, we’re exploring a way to bring characters, NPCs, and monsters to life with subtle movements and transformations. This effect gives the miniatures a unique, animated style, making each piece feel more vibrant and memorable on the table.

Craft & Process

These lenticular miniatures will be produced in collaboration with a trusted card printing company we’ve worked with for years, known for delivering high-quality prints. We prefer using card as it is more affordable and environmentally friendly, the minimum order quantity is high so keeping initial costs down is also an important factor. Each miniature will feature lenticular images that change when viewed from different angles, allowing for unique, multi-image effects within each figure. The miniatures are scaled to match standard TTRPG miniatures, ensuring seamless integration into existing tabletop setups.

We aim to work with multiple artists to create a varied set of characters and monsters, with each artist receiving royalties for every image used. By creating a large initial set, we can distribute these miniatures in box sets, allowing for broader distribution and enabling this project to continue as an evergreen product.

Environmental and Ethical Notes

Card was chosen for its more eco-friendly properties compared to plastic, supporting our goal to keep this project as environmentally friendly as possible. We plan to work with a factory we’ve partnered with before, known for its ethical and sustainable practices. Our long-standing relationship with this supplier allows us to ensure both high production quality and adherence to responsible manufacturing standards.

Collaborators / Artists Needed

We are seeking artists to create designs for NPCs, monsters, and characters to appear on these lenticular miniatures. We’re open to working with a broad range of artists to bring diverse styles and themes into this collection. Each artist will receive royalties for their images used in the set, with potential long-term earnings if the product becomes popular. Our vision is for this to be a collaborative, community-driven project that highlights a wide range of artistic talent.

These lenticular miniatures are designed to bring a dynamic visual element to tabletop games, enhancing immersion by offering animated perspectives. The set will provide players and game masters with a unique way to display characters, NPCs, and monsters, adding a fresh, visually engaging layer to gameplay.

Edition / Exclusivity

We plan for this product to launch as a pre-order or crowdfunded item, but the goal is to create a continuously available box set if successful. This approach will allow us to build on the collection over time, introducing new designs and artists with each new release, as well as allowing artists involved in the beginning to build up larger royalties as more of their images are used in more sets.

Collaboration Opportunity

Our launch strategy includes an initial pre-order or crowdfunding project to gauge interest, followed by the potential for ongoing sales. This setup provides a stable platform for artists to continue benefiting from their contributions. We welcome partnerships with artists interested in creating lasting, popular designs, as well as potential retail collaborators to help expand this project’s reach.

What This Needs to Move Forward

We’re ready to begin development with our printing partner and have prototype ideas for stands and packaging. We need artist contributions to bring this project to life and promotional support to help generate interest during the crowdfunding stage. We’ll cover prototype costs and are open to working with artists and collaborators who share a passion for tabletop gaming.

Compensation Agreement

Collaborators will receive royalties on all images used in the final product, with payments structured post-funding and based on sales performance. Terms will be set before launch, ensuring artists benefit from long-term success as the product evolves and grows in popularity.
